show some love

Feb 14 2012 Published by under iphone photos, personal work

When you decide to express your Valentine-yness this year, do us all a favor and steer clear of those plastic balloons, which seem to inevitably end up bobbing around in the ocean, contributing to the Great Pacific Garbage Dump. That’s right, i’m referring to the floating island of never-gonna-go-away plastic trash near Hawaii that about the size of Texas. These were just three of many i saw on the beach in Santa Monica this time last year. Show some love for mother nature too!

LA Gun Club

Not much of a gun- afficianado as such, but it is a fun and unusual thing to do when the parents are in town from UK. So off we went to shoot some Guns Yee-ha! Those things are surprisingly accurate…. or i’m extraordinarily good at it ( i think it’s the former). We shot a Beretta 9mm, and an AM-15, which is basically an M-16. It’s makes you think, you don’t have to be an amazing talent to hit the target with these machines in your hands. Scary thought really.

gotta love me some new Banksy

photo-12photo-13

He’s at it again, and just in time for some nice pre- Oscar publicity. Go on lad, win yourself a shiny little statue. If you haven’t seen ‘Exit Through The Gift Shop’ i highly recommend it. So entertaining, and in Banksy’s own subversive way, enlightening. Anyway, so i thought what better way to spend this holiday monday than on a little street-art scavenger hunt around LA. I originally had four Banksy’s on my shopping list, but found out the de-faced billboard on Sunset has been taken down (apparently the owners realized it would now be a collectors piece, so put it in storage), and a cheeky cigarette smoking arsonist Charlie Brown, ready to pour gasoline on a burned out building. This was my particular favourite, but that too has been removed somehow (they must have literally cut half the wall out or something). Anyway, here’s what’s left……. so far anyway. Banksy, give us some more of your excapades. By the way, if he wins the Oscar, my money is on Mr. Brainwash doing the honors to receive the award.

‘LosAngopolis’ the beach series; an iphone journey thru the city of angels

'losangopolis'; beach series

Being fortunate enough to live by the beach, one of my favourite things to do if the schedule allows, is take a walk on the sand late in the afternoon just as the sun is starting to set. And thanks to my trusty iphone, i’m often taking pictures too. Without doubt, it’s an amazing time to shoot, just as day starts to turn into night.

‘NewYorkopolis’ another iphone photo essay

NewYorkopolis

here’s one more iphone photo combo, from a recent trip to the big apple. What’s not to love about the iphone for pure spontaneous photography. except of course the file size etc. But what i like is that it really simplifies things. Your stuck with the one lens and such limitations which i think is a good thing. Need a zoom lens on your iphone? It’s those two extremities below the waist. Walk!
clockwise from top left:
5th Ave.- This guy just looks perfect for a hurried, impatient business-on-his-mind New Yorker.
Empire State Building- what a beautiful day for a meeting, this was right after leaving the offices of ESPN magazine
‘Man with sink’ 5th Ave.- say no more!
Yankee Stadium bleachers- the reaction when a lone Red Sox fan decided to make his home in the bleachers. Oh yeah, and the Red Sox weren’t even playing that day. Forgetaboutit!

LosAngopolis

A selection of some of my favourites of my iphone series when out and about in LA. For those who follow me on twitter (http://twitter.com/gallagherphoto) you may have seen these before, but they still look good, particularly as a set. I think so anyway. Ok, i’ll do more.
