The luminous Penelope Cruz, photographed at the Chateau Marmont for Empire magazine. Congrats on yet another Oscar nod this year! We opted for a very filmic look on this shoot, using a couple of clanky old Arri heads for lighting and shot on film with my Hasselblad 500CM. I think Penelope appreciated the quick and dirty visual styling. When me and Thomas Hencz light a shoot like this it’s very much a fluid situation, with Thomas, my right hand man, literally moving lights in between (and sometimes during!) shots with such distinct touch and feel. Talk about a team effort. Steven Spielberg observed this poetry in motion first hand and simply stated “You guys should make movies!”
